Stick of the Week for 4/1/12

311 drumsticksNo!  This is not an April Fool’s joke!  I am excited to welcome aboard the hugely popular band 311.  I recently heard about them having a huge Fan Day Celebration in Las Vegas.  Well, turns out I was going to be in Vegas that same day with my band Big Daddy Weave for a show at a church exactly 1 mile from the strip.  How convenient.

I started out the day around 8:45 am with a walk to the world famous Gold & Silver Pawn Shop where the show Pawn Stars is filmed.  I made a few sample Custom Drumsticks for them to try out in their merchandise shop.  I hope to get a call back soon!  I then headed over to the Hard Rock where 311 was having a pre-party for the big event the following day.  I couldn’t stay much longer due to my show that evening so I left the sticks with the merchandise manager at the Hard Rock with hopes of him showing the sticks to the right people.  Well, that is exactly what happened.  I am so thankful for the opportunity to make these amazing drumsticks and know that the fans of 311 will  soon love them.

If you are a fan of 311 and get to make it out to a show, stop by the table and pick up a pair of 311 Custom Drumsticks.  I know you will love them as well!  If you want to order them online, you can do that by clicking here and visiting their online store.

Stick of the Week for 8-10-2011

33 Miles Custom DrumsticksThis week we feature the band 33 Miles.  This duo is a force of energy.  If you have seen them live then you know exactly what I am talking about.  If you haven’t, well, what are you waiting for?  There aren’t many bands who have both strengths.  Great vocals and great musicianship.  Usually one stands out above the other.  33 Miles is an exception.  They posses both strengths.

I have known Chris Lockwood, the guitar player and background singer in the group for several years.  We went to the same college in Mobile, AL and attended the same church for a while.  I have only known Jason Barton, the lead singer for a few years, but have realized he is quite the singer and makes it seem easy from the stage.

I really dig their design.  It features each of them on their own stick sold as a pair.  I often joke about selling them as singles to see which one is more popular!

Check their site for upcoming shows to see where they are coming soon.  If you get a change to see them in person, don’t pass it up!

Lulu's custom drumsticksDid you know Jimmy Buffett has a sister?  Well, he does and her name is Lucy Buffett.  She is quite the celebrity herself.  You can read her story here.  If you have ever been to the beautiful gulf coast or visited Gulf Shores, Alabama, you may have heard of the legendary Lulu’s at Homeport.  My wife first introduced me to Lulu’s a few years ago and I have thanked her ever since.

Lulu’s at Homeport first opened it’s doors at it’s current location in 2004 and today is known for much more than a great seafood place, but a family destination.  My two daughters look forward to going to Lulu’s and talk about it the whole way there.

After visiting their gift shop and knowing they have live music daily, I felt it only fitting for them to have a Lulu’s custom drumstick.  I have been honored to have Lulu’s on board this year and am glad to be a part of their gulf coast get-a-way.

Check out Lulu’s website here or visit in person if you are ever on the gulf coast.  Great food, great atmosphere and great entertainment.  You will not be sorry!

Custom graphic drumsticksI have known of this band for over 20 years.  My first experience was hearing their song, “Stand Up For Jesus” around 1990.  They have been around for a long time and are still rockin’.  They continually reinvent themselves to stay relevant in current trends of the music scene.  There is no doubt if you go to a Newsboys concert, you will be entertained, that is for sure.  They push the limits of what can be done in a concert setting.  I am encouraged to bring my playing up to the next level when I think of how serious they are about being professional and taking seriously what they do each night as musicians.

You can check them out here.  If they come to a city near you, go, you will not be sorry.

Casting Crowns is a great group.  I met them for the first time when they played at a showcase we were playing at in Nashville, TN many years ago.  They instantly became an international sensation in the Contemporary Christian Music world.  They have had several Platinum records and numerous number one hits.

However, the thing that stands out most about them is their humility.  I got to know the different members backstage at several festivals we were playing together and I have always been impressed with their ability to stay focused on what they were called to do as Christians.  They have never been anything but nice and generous to me.  So when I got the call to make their sticks I was more than excited!  I love knowing I am involved in something that touches the hearts of millions around the world by making the best custom drumstick for them in the world.

Remember the band Petra? Stick of the week 5-17-2011

Custom drumstick for Petra

I grew up on their music.  I dreamed of going to a Petra concert, getting an emergency alert from stage that the drummer had sprain his wrist and needed a fill in.  I would then take over as the new drummer and the rest is history.  Well, that didn’t happen, thankfully.  However, I did have the pleasure several years later to play at a festival with these guys and later play at a conference where their lead singer spoke.  I was blown away by how small the Christian Music Industry is.

I was equally honored when I got the call to make a custom drumstick for them.  They are doing a reunion tour from 2010 to 2012.  Hopefully you can catch them out on the road sometime soon.  I know I will!

MercyMe

Personalized custom drumsticks for MercyMe

I first met these guys at a show in Greenville, AL right before their song, “I Can Only Imagine” hit big at radio. Our band was honored to get to open for them. They were very gracious to us and allowed us to use their gear. I had never used in-ear monitors before that day. Robby, their drummer was kind enough to let me share his kit as well. A lot has happened since that day and they have gone on to sell millions of records. I am grateful to have partnered with them and wish them the best as they continue to travel the globe spreading the good news.

You can check them out here.

Stick of the Week-Stryper

I’ve been a huge fan of these guys since I was in the 8th grade.  They were my introduction to Contemporary Christian Music.  “Honestly” and “To Hell with the Devil” were my favorites from the album by that name.  After starting Custom Stix I set a goal to have these guys as a client.  When that day arrived I felt like I could leave this earth having accomplished a big thing.  These guys were the biggest band I could dream of working with and to this day I am honored to provide them the highest quality custom graphic drumsticks in the world.
